The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ (Sermon Audio)

John 21:1-14

*

Just a few of the references of the grace of the Lord Jesus:

Romans 16:20, 1 Corinthians 16:23, 2 Corinthians 8:9, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Galatians 6:18, Philippians 4:23, 1 Thessalonians 5:28, 2 Thessalonians 3:18, 1 Timothy 1:14, Philemon 1:25

Psalm 2:1-12, Revelation 19:11-16

What is this grace?

  • God’s riches at Christ’s expense;
  • Unmerited favor;

Those who receive His grace:

  • are undeserving of any favor from Jesus whatsoever
  • no little bit of good obligates Jesus to us in any way

Psalm 2:1-12

Rev 19:11-16

(vv 1-3) While some of the disciples were fishing, Jesus took the initiative to reveal himself. As with the previous sermon text, He keeps pursuing them. The same is true for us.

Difficult Grace: (not catching fish)

(vv 4-8)--Failure is the difficult grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is working all things together for good for those who love him.

  • Luke 5:4-5
  • NET translation of verse 5--So Jesus said to them, “Children, you don’t have any fish, do you?”
  • John 15:5 (apart from Jesus we can accomplish nothing)
  • Jesus tells them where the fish are.

Motivating Grace: (catching fish)

When experienced, it produces “zeal” in us. "It is the Lord!"

“You can not do it without God and God will not do it without you” H.B. Charles

(vv 9-14) The nets did not break—by the grace of Jesus

  • Luke 5:5-7
  • Jesus reveals himself for the third time since his resurrection
  • as the king of glory, he is still among them as one who serves

*These are my (Chuck's) notes. What did YOU hear preached? Please share in the comments below.

Come and Dine (C. B. Widmeyer Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, 1884)

1 Jesus has a table spread
Where the saints of God are fed,
He invites His chosen people, “Come and dine”;
With His manna He doth feed
And supplies our every need:
Oh, ’tis sweet to sup with Jesus all the time!

Refrain:
“Come and dine,” the Master calleth, “Come and dine”;
You may feast at Jesus’ table all the time;
He Who fed the multitude, turned the water into wine,
To the hungry calleth now,“Come and dine.”

2 The disciples came to land,
Thus obeying Christ’s command,
For the Master called unto them, “Come and dine”;
There they found their heart’s desire,
Bread and fish upon the fire;
Thus He satisfies the hungry every time. [Refrain]

3 Soon the Lamb will take His bride
To be ever at His side,
All the host of heaven will assembled be;
Oh, ’twill be a glorious sight,
All the saints in spotless white;
And with Jesus they will feast eternally. [Refrain]
