Believing Without Seeing (Sermon Audio)

John 20:11-31

*

Who Jesus is...

What Jesus is like...

Mary (John 20:11-18)

  • Jesus is…

    • Initially Mary thought he was a gardener

    • But then realized it was Jesus himself—teacher, risen Lord

  • Jesus is like…

    • Not the culture of the day...He reveals himself to Mary first

    • Gentle in the way he revealed himself to her

    • Treated her with honor-sent her to tell the brothers as a witness to what she saw and heard from Jesus

The Disciples (John 20:19-23)

  • Jesus is…

    • Omnipotent-entered the locked room

    • Glorified flesh and blood

    • The Son of God who was sent into the world

  • Jesus is like…

    • Though the disciples had scattered and were afraid, in his grace, Jesus bids the disciples peace.

    • Encourages them to touch him and believe that he has risen

    • In his grace counts them worthy of being sent as he was sent by his Father

Thomas (John 20:24-29)

  • Jesus is…

    • Omnipotent and omniscient-entered again, though the doors were locked, knew what Thomas said concerning believing unless he sees

  • Jesus is like…

    • Jesus, his love and gentleness, though Thomas was stubborn in disbelief, pursed and showed himself to him.“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe”

John 20:31 John wrote this gospel that we might believe...

1 Peter 1:8-Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory

Tragedy in Barbour County-June 23rd

This is a portion of what Ian Tallman shared on Faithlife:

"I’m sure many of you have become aware of the tragedy that took place yesterday. Two of our Young Life kids were involved in a car accident coming back from Snowshoe. The boy lost his life, and the girlfriend was critically injured and flighted to Ruby, she is stable."

Please remember all affected by this tragedy in your prayers

Whatever Rules Your Heart Rules Your Life

Elder Meeting-June 27th

Day of the Christian Martyr-June 29th

According to church tradition, June 29 marks the martyrdom of the Apostle Paul. This month, join Christians around the world to honor the faithful witness of those who, like Paul, have sacrificed their lives for the advancement of the gospel. And be inspired to have that same boldness to share Christ in your community.

Consider setting aside time, either individually or as a family, to remember and give thanks for the saints who, by the strength that God supplies, have kept the faith, and endured persecution to the point of death.

Use these slides, the video, and the printed handouts from the recent Sunday service as a guide.
